We rate these units exceptional. For our Energybuild project we
compared structural design, manufacturing quality, timber quality,
glazing options, components, efficiency comparisons and pricing
as the standards for making our window choice. We received quotations
from three different window manufacturers ( Rationel, Swellux and
Domex) that were capable of meeting our design specifications and
material choice which was Pine. We were immediately impressed with
the comprehensive specifications and drawings that accompanied the
Domex and Rationel quotations. Domex ,who were to fastest to respond,
insisted that the each drawing be individually signed and returned
if proceeding with the order. We found this to be an example of
efficiency that both protected the company and the client from order
error. We were also surprised with the price difference of the quotations.
1. Rationel: Did not give a U=value with the quotation and stressed that the units were standard double glazed units and not low E. The overall cost inclusive of vat was 11,858 Euro.
2. Swellux: Gave a U=value of k=2.8 which was not the most impressive and came with a price tag inclusive of vat of 13,780.20 Euro.
3. Domex: Had a U=value of k=1.1 which was extremely impressive
and also came with a tilt and turn combination and air vents. We
were impressed with a delivery time of 3 to 5 weeks. The overall
price including vat was most impressive at 8,400 Euro.
We were shocked and surprised by such a staggering price difference
and it was not difficult after comparison evaluations to choose
Domex. It was a decision we did not regret. Delivery from the time
of order to site was just under 4 weeks and the windows were exceptionally
finished. The 4 point Winkhaus locking system was smooth and the
drain system efficient. The windows and doors are in place for 12
months now and have been tested in all weather conditions coming
through with flying colours. A note of caution to finish on. We
imported the windows directly from Domex in Poland. we paid the
money up front and had not the slightest problem in the transaction.
However, had something gone wrong with breakages in transit or the
like, then the whole process may have been a bit more troublesome.
Sourcing materials outside of one's own domain may well be very
rewarding but it does come with risks so if you don't have the bottle,
then leave well enough alone.
